only if the patient has a uterus, ovaries, and other parts necessary for childbirth. discuss the concerns with your OB.
2 :
sure, its physically possible because TB and menengitis have nothing to do with the reproductive organs, but i cant imagine anybody wanting to do both at the same time...

how long does it take to die from tuberculosis

how long does it take to die from tuberculosis?
I am working on a story, and I am planning on having one of the main characters infected with it. I would love to know any information you can offer, especially how long someone can be infected and live. Thanks

Looking for people who were incarcerated for Tuberculosis in North Reading, MA

Looking for people who were incarcerated for Tuberculosis in North Reading, MA ?
I with 3 other members of my family were sent to this facility, located in North Reading, Massachusetts, for lengthy periods running from a year and a half to I believe close to three years. I would appreciate any information about others who may have been in this facility in the early 50's (1951 - 1954). Also any known links to information about that facility.

Apparently at CVS: http://www.minuteclinic.com/en/USA/CT/Clinics.aspx The links below should give you all the information you need. Scroll down at the CT government Dept. of Public Health website and there is a link. Usually the IPPD skin test is done first. When I was in the USAF I was tested annually with my physical. Many years later I had positive skin test indicating I was exposed to TB. As a converter (formerly negative, now positive) I had a chest x-ray, (negative) and now do not take another. Good luck

What is the cell morphology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis

What is the cell morphology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis?
When I looked at it under the microscope, it looked as if it were coccus by shape, but I looked it up and I found some sites consider it a bacillus, which one is it? I also need to double check on S. auerous, which I think it's coccus, M.smegmatis, which I think is bacillus. Thanks kids!

M. tuberculosis is an obligate aerobe ( weakly Gram-positive mycobacterium, hence Ziehl-Neelsen staining (Acid-fast staining) is used). While mycobacteria do not seem to fit the Gram-positive category from an empirical standpoint (i.e., they do not retain the crystal violet stain), they are classified as an acid-fast Gram-positive bacterium due to their lack of an outer cell membrane. M. tuberculosis divides every 15 to 20 hours, which is extremely slow compared to other bacteria, which tend to have division times measured in minutes (for example, E. coli can divide roughly every 20 minutes). It is a small bacillus that can withstand weak disinfectants and can survive in a dry state for weeks.

I'll give you a simpler answer for this one as well. The TB and Smegmatis are both considered AF bacilli while the Staph forms cocci usually in grape like clusters for S. aureus. Hope that helps you

Can a Tuberculosis test be read in the following 24 hours

Can a Tuberculosis test be read in the following 24 hours?
I understand that a TB test is usually read after 48 to 72 hours. Can it be read sooner if the person cannot go to the physician later?

1 :
they need more time to perform tests remember lots of other tests will be being carried out so that tb test could be low on the list
2 :
No. The results can not be labeled as a negative reading if they are not read in the 48-72 hour time frame. You may have to get the test redone if the results can not be confirmed. I would make ever effort to get to the physician or to a health clinic and get the results read. TB tests for employment are very strict. Sorry.
3 :
No, This test is supposed to read your hipersensibility to the tuberculosis bacillus..... So you need to give some time, for this reaction to happen.
4 :
no the tine skin test requires min of 36-48 hrs
