Can you get fired for having Tuberculosis

Can you get fired for having Tuberculosis?
Just had our TB skin test, mine came up negative but unfortunately my co-worker's came back positive. Can she lose her job for that?

No, but she might be placed on a temporary leave of absence while she undergoes treatment. The treatment is very simple. Her family may have to be treated as well. My sister contracted it while working at a doctor's office and I think they put her out of work for about a week after a positive test while she took the meds.

I wouldn't think so. That would be discrimination. You can get treatment for it, so that is probably what they will end up doing.

No. A positive TB skin test does not mean you have an active TB infection, but that you have been exposed to it and carry the bacteria. There are also situations that can cause a false-positive result. TB cannot be spread if you do not have an active infection. After a positive test, usually a chest x-ray is taken, a sputum (mucus coughed up from the lungs) test is done. If it is determined that there is no live infection, the person may be given INH, and antibiotic that, if taken for several months, can stop the bacteria from turning into a live infection. If no other action is taken at your workplace, then she needs to contact her doctor
