How Does TB Spread? All types of TB (see “Drug-resistant TB” below) are spread the same way. TB germs are put into the air when a person with TB disease of the lungs or throat coughs, sneezes, speaks, or sings. These germs can float in the air for several hours, depending on the environment. Persons who breathe in air containing these TB germs can become infected.TB is not spread by: * Shaking someone's hand * Sharing food or drink * Touching bed linens or toilet seats * Sharing tooth brushes * Kissing * Smoking or sharing cigarettes

If you've been exposed to active tuberculosis, then anyone you're intimate with should be tested. Your parents will get information from the doctor's office or the Health Department if he is positive so you'll have solid info on who should be tested. Tuberculosis can settle in many places in the body, not just the lungs, but can be treated successfully now. Be aware it's very possible to get a false positive on a TB test.

While it cannot be spread via kissing, per se, it is passed by breathing the same air as an infected person. You need to get tested, though the chances of you having active TB (and therefore able to transmit it) are low so you shouldn't be spreading the plague
