Sometimes statistics miss the mark in mass media. According to the World Health Organization TB report, the global average prevalence (number of existing cases) of TB cases was 229 per 100,000 in 2004. This is far less than 33,333! However, more than a third of the world's population live in high risk areas and probably have been "infected" with the bacillus that causes TB. Most of these people will not develop a disease, however. Source: http://www.who.int/tb/publications/global_report/2006/pdf/full_report.pdf
